Introduction to Career Coaching Program


Tsinghua University Career Coaching Program is a career coaching model for college students pioneered by Tsinghua University Career Development Center in China in 2006. Over the past thirteen years, a total of more than 800 coaches have provided more than 11,000 Tsinghua students with career coaching that integrates career planning, ability enhancement, practical visits, internship selection and recruitment recommendation, bridging the gap between majors and frontier industries, and between students and career professionals. It allows students to deeply experience the frontier of the industry, scientifically plan their career development and significantly improve their workplace competence.

In continuous practice and reflection, the Tsinghua University Career Coaching Program has further clarified its core objectives and gradually formed an operation model combining industry/enterprise coaching groups and individual coaches to comprehensively improve students' career competence in three dimensions: self-awareness, career exploration and choice decision making, and create opportunities for students to practice by basing on the "Action Session", whose rich and meaningful training activities have been warmly welcomed by Tsinghua students, with an overall satisfaction rate of over 90%.


Organizational structure of career coaching program

1. Coaching group.

Five (or more) coaches are encouraged to form a coaching group and design a series of coaching activities in an organized manner through resource sharing under the leadership of a chief coach. According to the composition of the coaching group, it can be divided into enterprise coaching group (coordinated by an enterprise or employer) and industry coaching group (jointly formed by enterprises or senior people in the same industry). On the basis of a fixed core, the coaching group can invite other senior workplace personnel to join according to the needs of specific training.

Generally, to ensure the quality of activities, the number of coaching students is about 20 (the Career Development Center can assist in inviting more students to participate in specific activities if the enterprises need them)


2. Personalized Coach.

With one to two senior coaches as the leading coaches, a coaching group of five or less is formed jointly with other personality coaches to lead coaching activities for less than 10 students, providing them with targeted and accurate coaching through in-depth personality coaching. The leading coach can also invite other experienced employees to join each activity session.
